Driving Test

Postby ciggy » Wed Jul 15, 2009 8:49 pm

Hi There,

I hope someone can help me, I am a ok driving on my own when driving, or if someone else is in the car, accept when the driving test person is in the car with me I actually get sick. My test is coming up in August and I am having panic attacks about it, and it is only july. I am living in kildare, and is looking for a good instructor, my test is in the old part of mullingar, I don't know mullingar that well. I have had two test but failed them. I have bad habits like coasting and that is about it. Just wondering do you know good instructor, or an intense course I could do.

would appreciate the feedback please

Hi,

Sorry, do not know any good instructors in Mullingar. Any instructor's name you do get, check here ADI Registered Instructors.

Unfortunately being on that list is no guarantee that they are any good.

Regarding coasting, any good instructor should be able to sort out that wee problem immediately.

For example, you negotiate most junctions/corners in 2nd gear, so approaching a junction brake way way down, depress clutch, (if necessary continue braking slightly) change to 2nd, release clutch. Have this done, say a half-car length from the junction. Then NO gas, brake or clutch, (Feet OFF everything) let the car take you through the junction. Practice quiet junctions first, where you will not be distracted by other traffic..

One reason I find why people coast, they do not brake down enough before changing gears. Its all about control.
