In Ireland, since the 25th April 2001 a Driving Theory Test must be undertaken (and passed !) before a person can obtain their 1st provisional driving licence.
The test is conducted on a computer monitor where 40 multi-choice questions are selected at random from a bank of over 1250. 35 questions must be answered correctly to achieve a pass.
From the 21st October 2006 500 new questions were added to the data bank..

DTTS - Theory Test Official Site
A book and a CD-ROM are available with all the questions and answers. The CD-ROM has the advantage of a mock test facility..
The book and the PC CD-ROM can be obtained from most bookstores.
Copyright laws apply to the book and the CD. (See Footnote. ). Therefore we are unable to publish any questions from either. However some of the questions in our quizzes may accidentally bear some resemblance to the questions in "The Official Driver Theory Test". (We were the 1st Irish Driving School to have quizzes online)
With the exception of a sample question on the Official DTTS web site there is no facility online where you could view the correct question bank and practice for the test.
The Irish Government has opened a new web site at:- Road Safety Authority
They now have the new "Rules of the Road" in Pdf format on this site, so if you have a few moments to spare, click above link and advise them that having the bank of theory test questions available online, would also be a good start in promoting road safety.
Unlike the British system where you can practise the theory test online (for free, but now necessary to register)
British Car Theory Test.
Well worth a visit
They also publish their version of the "The Rules of the Road" booklet online. Again for free.
British Highway Code.
This is a very informative booklet, again well worth a visit. !!
These may ACCIDENTLY (see Footnote) bear slight resemblance to the official test questions
